Aquaman #48
Few images in 2019 comics pack quite this much primal dread: a bare-chested Aquaman, trident raised and hair streaming, dwarfed by the blood-spattered, gaping maw of the colossal Mother Shark that fills nearly the entire cover. The scale between hero and beast is genuinely unsettling, rendered with striking linework by cover penciler Robson Rocha and inker Daniel Henriques. With Kelly Sue DeConnick writing and Viktor Bogdanovic on interior art, "Mother Shark Part One" promises an undersea confrontation that's hard to look away from.
