Aquaman #47
The cover of this 2019 DC Universe issue says it all — Aquaman is down on one knee, battered and gripping a spear, while a ferocious host of monstrous figures towers over him: a snarling shark-headed behemoth, a blue-skinned warrior woman, a horned red beast wielding a sword, and other fearsome creatures looming in the chaos behind them. The tagline "Revenge of the Lost Gods!" makes clear that Arthur is outnumbered and outmatched as this five-part "Unspoken Water" arc reaches its conclusion. Writer Kelly Sue DeConnick and cover artists Robson Rocha and Daniel Henriques deliver a striking image that bristles with desperate tension.
