Amazing Spider-Man: Blood Hunt #1
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeAmazing Spider-Man: Blood Hunt #1 is the Spider-Man corner's formal entry point into Marvel's 2024 vampire-apocalypse crossover, and it matters creatively because writer Justina Ireland takes a notably unconventional approach to a big-event tie-in: rather than plugging Peter Parker into the wider Avengers-level battle, she isolates him in a street-level mystery alongside the Lizard and Misty Knight, emphasizing his instinct to cure rather than kill. The issue introduces the villainous corporate entity Hemoglobin, Inc. and its leader Theocritus (T.J. Thomas), two new additions to the Marvel vampire mythos built out of the Beyond Corporation's existing lore. It also reframes Morbius — historically Spider-Man's most prominent vampiric antagonist — as a potential savior rather than a threat, a moral inversion that gives the miniseries a distinct tone within the larger Blood Hunt event. For fans of the Daughters of the Dragon, the issue is notable for giving Colleen Wing and Misty Knight an unusually prominent co-lead role in a Spider-Man-branded title.

Blood Hunt was conceived by writer Jed MacKay, whose concurrent runs on Avengers, Doctor Strange, and Moon Knight had been steadily seeding vampire-related storylines; Marvel VP Executive Editor Tom Brevoort approached MacKay about anchoring a vampire-centered event and the two built outward from those existing threads. The parent event was first announced at New York Comic Con in October 2023 with MacKay and artists Pepe Larraz and Marte Gracia attached to the core series. Amazing Spider-Man: Blood Hunt #1 was handled separately from the main book, with novelist and comics newcomer Justina Ireland — a New York Times-bestselling prose author known for Dread Nation and her Star Wars: The High Republic work — scripting the Spider-Man tie-in miniseries, with Marcelo Ferreira on pencils, Roberto Poggi on inks, Rachelle Rosenberg on colors, and Cory Petit lettering, under editor Nick Lowe. The issue spun directly out of the events of Amazing Spider-Man (2022) #49.
