Amazing Spider-Man #24

Part of the sprawling Clone Conspiracy crossover event, this 2017 issue puts Spider-Man in a genuinely grim spot — flat on his back, apparently incapacitated, while a snarling humanoid Jackal creature and a robed, horned-masked figure loom over him with menacing intent. Shadowy spider-emblazoned figures crowd the dark background, amplifying the sense that the odds are stacked heavily against our hero. Alex Ross's painted cover work gives the whole scene a moody, cinematic weight that makes "Night of the Jackals" feel like a chapter you won't want to skip, with the creative team of Slott, Gage, Camuncoli, and Keith waiting inside to deliver the story.
