In "Today Earth Died!", Nick Fury is pulled from a troubling dream—just as a real UFO descends on mid-town Manhattan, drawing crowds and a news crew to witness the arrival of an alien named Vaengr. Offering the Prism of Miracles, a device said to end all hatred and violence, Vaengr seems like a savior—until Fury, Val, and Dugan uncover his true, monstrous nature. As the alien transforms into a grotesque insect-like being and unleashes his fury, Fury is jolted awake by Dugan, who reports a real UFO sighting just moments after the nightmare ends.
