The cover of this April–June 1963 Dell issue says it all: Alvin — red sweater and bold "A" front and center — has his tiny hands cheerfully wedged inside the mouth of a full-grown, wide-jawed lion, while a group of alarmed onlookers peer through the cage bars behind him. It's the kind of fearless, laugh-out-loud situation that made Alvin such a perfect fit for comics, and writer Don Segall's interior story "Bubble Up" promises more of the same mischievous energy. A delightful snapshot of early-'60s all-ages humor at its most entertaining.
