Dell's early-1960s Alvin series captures the mischievous chipmunk in full cheerful stride on this January–March 1963 cover, with Alvin himself front and center in his signature red sweater, gleefully dancing while musical notes float through the air. Behind him, a farmer saws away on a handsaw as a makeshift instrument, one chipmunk plays a flute, and a smaller chipmunk bangs enthusiastically on a milk can — a wonderfully chaotic little band in full swing.
