All Star Superman #8
Against a blood-red sky, Frank Quitely's cover for All Star Superman #8 presents a striking tableau: Superman bound and restrained atop what appears to be a makeshift contraption, while two Superman-suited figures — one in green and gold, one in a darker variation of the classic costume — stand flanking him in poses of contemplation and distress. The scene crackles with an otherworldly tension, hinting at the strange duality suggested by the story title "Us Do Opposite." Grant Morrison and Quitely were delivering some of their most imaginative work together in 2007, and this cover alone makes a compelling case for picking up the issue.
