In "The Mystery of the Sargasso Sea," Ernie Schroeder's gripping tale unfolds with a wartime secret that defies death: a mysterious formula created during WW1 by the fallen von Emmelmann. When Bocke drinks the elixir meant to grant life, he survives execution—only to be drawn into a perilous journey across ancient ruins, where the Heap and the Book of the Dead hold the key to a forgotten truth. Ernest Schroeder's bold art brings this eerie, early 1950s adventure to life, with his distinctive pencils and inks anchoring every page.

During WW1, von Emmelmann, working from ancient Egyptian papers, succeeds in creating the Secret Essence of Life, but when von Emmelman is shot down during a dogfight and killed, Bocke sneaks into the dead flier's quarters and drinks the liquid. A few minutes later, he is arrested for jamming the guns of von Emmelman and is shot by a firing squad. However, because of the formula he drank, he is unharmed. Years pass the Heap and Bocke make their way to the Great Sphinx, looking for the famed Book of the Dead. Bocke flees the Sphinx when he sees the Heap and dies in a crocodile stream.
