Age of X-Man: Nextgen #4

Part of Marvel's 2019 "Age of X-Man" event, this fourth issue of Nextgen leads with one of the most genuinely strange cover images in the run — a translucent, nearly skeletal figure clutching a white chicken dominates the foreground, its interior organs glowing pinkish-violet through semi-transparent skin, while a crowd of startled young mutants reacts with alarm all around it. The chaotic, frenetic composition by cover penciler Chris Bachalo and inker Tim Townsend perfectly captures the off-kilter tension that defines this corner of the Age of X-Man. With Ed Brisson writing and Marcus To handling interior art and inks alongside colorist Jason Keith, this issue promises the same sharp character work that has made Nextgen a standout among its companion titles.
