Age of X-Man: Nextgen #3

Part of Marvel's 2019 "Age of X-Man" event, this third issue of Nextgen brings together a sprawling cast of young mutants in matching uniforms — wings, ice-blue forms, rocky appendages, and all — colliding in a chaotic, kinetic pile-up across the cover by penciler Chris Bachalo and inker Al Vey. At the center of it all, a striking skeletal-skinned figure clutches a chicken with an almost eerie calm, anchoring the mayhem with an oddly deadpan surrealism. Ed Brisson's script and Marcus To's interior art (colored by Jason Keith) promise the same unpredictable energy radiating from every corner of this wonderfully crowded image.
