Age of X-Man: Nextgen #2

Part of Marvel's 2019 Age of X-Man event, this second issue of Nextgen sports a striking cover by Chris Bachalo and Tim Townsend that immediately signals something has gone very wrong in this brave new mutant world. A massive, translucent figure — its skeleton and internal organs fully visible beneath pink, membranous flesh — looms above a chaotic splatter of biological matter, while figures in X-Men uniforms are caught in the spreading wave below, a lone chicken adding an unsettling surreal touch. Ed Brisson and Marcus To are steering this title into genuinely weird territory, and this cover makes a compelling case that Nextgen is one of the most visually adventurous corners of the Age of X-Man.
