Adventures on the Planet of the Apes #7

Marvel's 1976 adaptation charges forward with this tense issue, its cover — penciled by Michael Netzer and inked by Klaus Janson — capturing a desperate moment of pursuit: a frightened man silences a wide-eyed woman named Nova as armed gorilla soldiers close in through the foliage behind them, with the urgent caption making the stakes unmistakably clear: "They'll kill us both!" The composition does a great job of balancing the human terror in the foreground against the methodical menace of the approaching ape patrol, rifles in hand and more soldiers visible further down the path. With Doug Moench writing interior pages and Alfredo Alcala on art, "Beneath the Planet of the Apes" promises a gripping continuation of one of Marvel's most ambitious licensed series of the decade.
