Adventures of Superman #516

Part of DC's 1994 Zero Hour crossover event, this issue of Adventures of Superman poses a genuinely intriguing question right on the cover: "Who Is Metropolis's Greatest Hero?" The answer suggested by the cover art by Barry Kitson and Ray McCarthy is a striking one — a towering statue of Alpha-Centurion dominates the Metropolis skyline, while a wide-eyed Superman looks on from the foreground beside a startled woman, the Daily Planet globe visible in the background. It's a wonderfully disorienting image, framing the Roman-armored Alpha-Centurion as the city's celebrated champion in a way that clearly unsettles the Man of Steel himself.
