Written by Don C. Cameron and illustrated by Ralph Mayo, this 1949 Adventure Comics tale sees Clark unwittingly aiding a criminal scheme—using his abilities to recover hidden loot, all while the real danger lies in the trust he places in others. The cover, by Al Plastino, captures the moment of tension as Clark confronts the truth behind the charity stunt.
In "The Man Who Was Rescued 100 Times!", Aquaman repeatedly saves oceanographer Dan Dunbar from perilous sea disasters—only to discover the dramatic rescues are part of a staged film production. When the truth sinks in, Aquaman must decide whether to shut down the spectacle or let the movie, *Peril at Sea*, go forward, using the proceeds to support a charitable cause.
In "The Speed Crimes!", Johnny, the speedy hero, finds himself drawn into a cunning scheme when a prison yard convict hatches a plan to exploit his abilities. Pretending to support charity, the crooks lure Johnny into a series of high-speed feats—like reassembling a broken statue—without revealing the hidden clue it contains. When Johnny finally sees through the ruse, he turns the tables with a swift, clever move that sends the criminals scrambling.
