Jack Rand contacts Zatara about mysterious happenings at his lumber camp. Zatara flies to the camp and witnesses logs which started at the head of a chute disappear before reaching the river. He starts to walk up the chute when an oncoming log forces him to jump. Trying again, he gets to a point where the rival camp of Zeb Carter can be seen, and his lake is full of logs. Zatara discovers a mechanism which lifts a portion of the chute so that the logs divert into Carter's lake, and he exposes a conspiracy between Carter and Rand's foreman Jeff Lund.
