Action Comics #442

This December 1974 issue of Action Comics delivers a genuinely clever cover by Nick Cardy: a gunman's revolver fires point-blank at a television screen, and inside that screen Superman races to intercept the bullet, declaring "I've got to be faster than a speeding bullet to save him!" — with two bystanders looking on in alarm against the Metropolis skyline. The cover copy drives the tension home with "Somewhere in Metropolis a man is being murdered!", making the whole composition feel like a live broadcast of danger. Rounding out the package is a backup story featuring the Atom, giving readers two DC heroes for a still-only-20-cents price tag.
