A ten-cent gem from 1960, this issue of Action Comics promises "Superman's Battle with Hercules!" right on the cover, where a muscle-bound Hercules stands triumphant beside a glass capsule holding a sleeping Superman — labeled "Awakening Date 2060 A.D." A woman nearby pleads not to let Superman slumber for a century, while Hercules boasts of breaking Apollo's flute spell only to wake the Man of Steel with a marriage condition. Curt Swan and Stan Kaye deliver a wonderfully dramatic cover that sets up one of the more imaginative Superman face-offs of the Silver Age.
