Absolute Batman #8

History

Absolute Batman was conceived by Scott Snyder as the flagship of DC's Absolute Universe imprint, itself rumored since 2023 and officially announced at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2024 as part of the DC All In initiative. Snyder had initially intended to pitch the working-class Batman concept to other writers, but James Tynion IV persuaded him to write it himself; he agreed on the condition that Nick Dragotta, best known for Image's East of West, serve as the series artist. Because Dragotta took planned breaks between arcs, guest artists rotated in — Marcos Martín drew issues #7 and #8 — allowing the book to maintain a monthly release cadence. Issue #8 is therefore part of an intentional production architecture rather than a fill-in, with Martín's European clear-line and horror-inflected style bringing a tonal shift that Snyder's script — pivoting toward body-horror and existential character work — directly supported.
