Absolute Batman launched in October 2024 as the flagship title of DC's Absolute Universe imprint, with writer Scott Snyder — who was originally envisioned only in a consulting capacity — agreeing to take on the series on the condition that Nick Dragotta, best known for Image's East of West, serve as artist; writer James Tynion IV reportedly persuaded Snyder to step up from consultant to author. The series was conceived as part of DC's 'All In' publishing initiative, and Snyder has described its development as more deliberate than his earlier DC work, with the character's imposing physical scale — a blue-collar civil engineer Bruce Wayne without wealth or mansion — being one of the earliest creative decisions, expanded further at Snyder's request after Dragotta's initial designs.
