History

Absolute Batman launched in October 2024 as the flagship of DC's new Absolute Universe imprint, conceived by Scott Snyder — who originally planned only a consulting role before writer James Tynion IV persuaded him to take the book outright. Snyder agreed on the condition that Nick Dragotta, his collaborator from the Image series East of West, serve as series artist, and the two worked in close physical collaboration, with Dragotta regularly taking a ferry to Snyder's New York studio. To keep the monthly schedule while preserving visual cohesion, the creative team built a deliberate guest-artist rotation into the run's architecture, placing hand-picked fill-in artists on flashback-heavy 'character-spotlight' issues; issue #11 was slotted as the second such issue in the second arc, with Clay Mann — who had contributed multiple variant covers to the series — stepping in for Dragotta, with Ivan Plascencia replacing regular colorist Frank Martin for the issue.
