Absolute Batman #10
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeAbsolute Batman #10 delivers the first appearance of Dr. Arkham in the Absolute Universe — the cold, calculating lead researcher running Ark M who authorizes Bane's 'final phase' against Bruce Wayne, establishing her as a major architect of this continuity's horrors. The issue also contains the first in-story glimpse of the Isley Ecosystem within Ark M, a cameo that Key Collector Comics would later note as the precursor to Poison Ivy's full Absolute Universe introduction. Structurally, it marks the emotional and physical nadir of Snyder and Dragotta's first major arc: Bruce is stripped of his suit, subjected to ninety-one days of experimental torture, and only survives by improvising weapons from his own body — a brutal test of this version of Batman's working-class resourcefulness over inherited wealth. That unflinching, body-horror approach to the Dark Knight's endurance is something reviewers broadly agreed could not happen in the main DC continuity, underlining what the Absolute Universe imprint was built to do.

Absolute Batman launched in October 2024 as the flagship title of DC's new Absolute Universe imprint, itself overseen by Snyder. Writer James Tynion IV persuaded a reluctant Snyder to take the book on rather than serve in only a consulting role, and Snyder agreed on the condition that Nick Dragotta — his neighbor and the artist behind Image's East of West — illustrate it; Snyder has said he would not have proceeded without Dragotta's involvement. The two developed the series with unusual proximity, with Dragotta regularly taking the ferry to Snyder's New York studio to work on pages in person — a creative process Snyder described as unlike anything in his earlier DC career. By the time issue #10 arrived in July 2025, the series had already proven a sustained reprint phenomenon, with issue #1 eventually reaching a tenth and then eleventh printing.
Trivia · 8 facts
- Published July 16, 2025; cover-dated September 2025. Written by Scott Snyder, art by Nick Dragotta, colors by Frank Martin, letters by Clayton Cowles.
- First appearance of Dr. Arkham in the Absolute Universe — she is revealed on the final pages as the lead researcher of Ark M who gives Bane the go-ahead to break Batman.
- First appearance of the K.L.A.Y. biome within Ark M, a location where the floor appears to be composed of fused human bodies.
- Contains a cameo appearance of the Isley Ecosystem inside Ark M — trees with human eyes and mouths that ensnare Bruce — later noted by Key Collector Comics as the precursor to Absolute Poison Ivy's full introduction.
- Bruce Wayne is designated 'Subject 27' by Ark M's staff — the DC Database notes this is a deliberate in-text nod to Batman's debut in Detective Comics #27.
- The issue spans roughly ninety-one days of Bruce's captivity and multiple escape attempts, during which he is left bald and scarred, and ultimately reunites with Waylon Jones (Killer Croc) in his fully mutated, reptilian form.
- The issue went to at least four printings; as part of a broader February–March 2026 Absolute Universe reprint wave, issues #8–14 of the series all received third printings to meet sustained reader demand.
- An animated adaptation of Absolute Batman was announced at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in June 2026, with Snyder attached as showrunner and executive producer and Dragotta as producer — meaning the story context established in issues like #10 will inform a screen version of the Ark M saga.
