“The Slaying of Slade, Part 6”

Prog 317 of 2000 AD (21 May 1983) spotlights Rogue Trooper in a striking Cam Kennedy cover that puts the blue-skinned G.I. front and centre — motorcycle roaring forward against a blood-red sun — while menacing tangles of bio-wire coil through the wasteland of Nu Earth all around him. The tagline "The Bio-Wire… Creeping Killer of Nu Earth!" sets a suitably grim tone for the toxic battlefields Kennedy renders with real grit and atmosphere. Inside, Alan Moore and Alan Davis bring their talents to bear on the anthology's ongoing strips, making this a fine snapshot of early-'80s British comics firing on all cylinders.
