THERE have been many tragedies in tresses since Mrs. Sampson snipped off the locks of her strong-man husband. Indeed there is scarcely a day that some individual doesn't stand before his mirror, note the blighted aspect of his dome and wonder whether to shoot himself or buy a toupe. But Rudy Valentino's wife positively refuses to worry over the possibility that the Sheik may be getting bald. The idea! What might appear to be Time's winnowing of the precious locks, it is explained, amounts to nothing more than an optical illusion. Rudy, it is further explained, has thin, silken hair—and when he combs it too tight, his beautiful scalp shows through. And that's that. *** Comes now the Mah-Jongg divorce.
