Everybody was amiable and appreciative, and when the end came, and the audience were dismissed to the strains of the National Anthem, it was a truly loyal crowd that dispersed to the four quarters of St. Helier. ‘There is nothing like putting people into a good humour to set them glowing with themselves and all around them, and bring out their best qualities and good emotions. It was delicious to lie upon the reddish sands that threw a sort of glow over every- thing, and listen to the surging of the incoming tide, or the ripple of an inland stream that here emptied itself into the sea.
