What you’re looking at

This is primarily a **hotel advertisement**, not a political cartoon. The page promotes the Statler Hotels chain operating in Buffalo, Cleveland, Detroit, and St. Louis, plus the Hotel Pennsylvania in New York. The advertisement emphasizes the hotels' continuous improvement and consistent service standards. The five photographs at top show the properties' substantial architecture, meant to convey quality and permanence. Key selling points highlighted include: - Unusually low rates ($3-$7 per room depending on location) - Modern amenities: private baths, ice-water, reading lamps, morning newspapers delivered to rooms - Transparent pricing ("square deal" — no hidden charges) - Professional, well-trained staff The signature at bottom appears to be the hotel company's owner/operator. There is **no satire or political commentary** on this page—it's straightforward commercial messaging typical of early-to-mid 20th century hotel industry advertising, emphasizing value, cleanliness, and service to appeal to business travelers and tourists.

So every year we're bettering our service, and also the extent and degree of supervision given to maintenance and improvement of both our proper- ties and our personnel. The truth is that these hotels are, virtually, new hotels—for every one of our properties is kept new. The organ- ization that serves you in a Statler, though, is not new; it is well trained, well seasoned, capable—and when serv- ice does fall short, in some detail, of the Statler standard, you'll find us will- ing, anxious and able to satisfy you by any means in our power. P7002 Lan Rates are unusually low, in comparison with those of other first-class hotels: Single rooms are from $3 in Cleveland, Detroit and St. Louis; from $3.50 in Buffalo, and from $4 in New York. Twin-bed rooms (fortwo) are from $5.50 in Cleveland, Detroit and St. Louis, from $6.50 in Buffalo, and from $7 in New York. And remember that every room in these houses has its own private bath, circulating ice-water, and many other conveniences that are unusual—such as, for instance, the bed-head reading lamp, the full- length mirror, the morning paper that is delivered to your room before you wake. In every room, too, is posted a card on which is printed the price of that room, for one or for two people. You know exactly what the room is costing you—and that you're paying no more than anybody else would pay. We believe in the policy of one price, plain figures and the square deal. Buffalo—and Niagara The newest Hotel Statler, Nisgara Square, Buffalo, has 100rooms,1100baths. Across the street from it is the new’ Statler Garage, a marvel of convenience throughout — and especially appreciated by tourists who make Buffalo their headquarters when visiting NIAGARA FALLS, but 23 miles away.
