What you’re looking at
This is **not a cartoon or satire**—it's a straightforward automobile advertisement from Life magazine's advertising section. The page promotes Mitchell Motors' "mid-year model" cars, featuring five new enclosed body designs by engineer John W. Bate. The ad emphasizes efficiency and luxury, claiming Bate studied 257 existing car models worldwide before designing these vehicles. Key selling points include: - Limited production (500 cars total) - 26 extra features and 73 design innovations - Various body styles (Touring Sedan, Limousine, Cabriolet, Coupe) - A chassis with "700 improvements" and chrome-vanadium steel construction - Prices ranging from $1,325 to $2,680 The rhetoric reflects 1920s automotive marketing: emphasis on efficiency, strength, luxury, and American manufacturing superiority. Two car silhouettes at the top show the Springfield Touring Sedan and Superb Mitchell Limousine models. This represents early automotive industry competition before market consolidation.
