On The Avenue RIGHT is the day, dear, the sun has a cheery look; Never a trace on the face of a care I see, Never a dreary and never a bleary look; Meeting and mingling, the Scribe and the Pharisee! Winy the air is, and now that you have a new Frock, let us go for a walk on the Avenue! Here is the surging of jest and of jollity; Here is the merging of froth and frivolity ; Ne'er was a scene such as this is to gather belles! Yet there's a lure in it, yet there’s a charm in it; Hat plumes a-nodding and waving like heather-bells! Just for an hour, then, and what is the harm in it! Satins and silks with their sheen and their shimmering; Laces a-rippling and jewels a-glimmering! Just for an hour that is merry with mummery! Just for an hour full of fashion and flummery ! Laughter up-soaring like song that is lyrical Just for an hour, my dear, now that you have a new Over the chatter and gossip satirical ; Frock, how delightful a walk on the Avenue! Clinton Scollard.
