This page contains primarily **advertisements** rather than political satire. The main content advertises the Brunswick "Baby Grand" billiard table as home entertainment for families. The central cartoon—labeled "A Sign of the Times"—depicts a cherub holding a sign directing people to "Old Doc Jones for your birth certificate," satirizing concerns about **proving citizenship or legitimacy**. This likely references early 20th-century anxieties about immigration documentation or vital records. The lengthy article "Discipline and Discipline" argues for reforming harsh military disciplinary practices (guard-houses, severe punishment), suggesting experimental stations test gentler methods. This reflects **Progressive Era criticism** of rigid military hierarchy, proposing that civilian institutions (post-offices) manage discipline effectively without severity. The remaining content includes diet/fitness advertisements and playing card ads. The page is typical early-20th-century magazine advertising mixed with social commentary on military reform and bureaucratic documentation.

Unexcelled playing quali-} containing pictures, descrip: | A SIGN OF THE TIMES Discipline and Discipline “THERE is a tradition in the army and navy that discipline may be obtained only by the liberal use of guard-houses ; that desertion or a little back talk or otheryinfraction of the rules must not be condoned for a single instant lest the entire bottom fall out of the disciplinary structure, leaving it prone and impotent. There is no real good proof that this tradition isn’t largely superstitious. The government has no difficulty in maintaining discipline elsewhere, in the post-office, for instance, without any special kind of harshness, Down at Panama, where plenty of discipline was necessary, the government handled all sorts and conditions of men without any specia: guard-house code of regu- lations. It might be done in the army and navy, too, if we only thought so. Why couldn't we try it out by estab- lishing an experimental station at some army post, where matters would move more in the spirit and on the basis of other human affairs? Such an experi- ment might yield many valuable revela- tions, The only loss we can think of, especially in time of peace, might be a temporary loss to officers of that dig- nity which much of the army “ disci- pline” is expended in preserving; but, on that point, the officers should re- member that there are many brands of dignity which are self-preserving, and self-preserving dignity is preferable any time to that which doesn’t feel quite secure without a bodyguard. Is Your Figure What It Should Be? Do you realize that nature intended all women to be symmetrical? That she is not, is due entirely to condi tons which can and should be remedied. Through many years of exhaustive study and practical experience, Ihave perfected a system which will, Rot only perfect the figure, but improve the health and general condition as well.
