What you’re looking at
This page is primarily **advertising**, not satire or political commentary. It features product advertisements typical of early 1900s American commerce: **Main Advertisement:** Winchester Model 1905 self-loading rifle—a technological novelty marketed for hunting and sport shooting at $28. **Other Ads Include:** - La Magnita cigars ("The Perfect Havana") - Surbrug's Arcadia tobacco mixture - Multiple champagne and wine brands (Mumm, Calvet, Valckenberg, Otard Dupuy) - Scotch whisky - Lake Shore Limited railroad service **One Small Cartoon Element:** A James Montgomery Flagg illustration promoting a humorous etiquette guide ("If: a Guide to Bad Manners") by Flagg himself—a conditional joke about "if you're good for 75 cents." The page reflects turn-of-the-century consumer culture and leisure goods marketed to affluent readers. There is no apparent political satire or social commentary here—it's straightforward period advertising.

‘LIFE + cee | MODEL 1905 SELF-LOADING RIFLE. This rifle is a six-shot, hammerless take-down, made in .32 and .35 calibers, the car- tridges it handles being of the modern smokeless powder type, having excellent penetration and great shocking effect on animal tissue. As its name indicates, the Model 1905 is self-loading. The recoil of the exploded cartridge ejects the empty shell, cocks the hammer and feeds a fresh cartridge from the magazine into the chamber, leaving the rifle ready to shoot upon the operator’s pulling the trigger. The self-loading system permits rapid shooting with great accuracy, and on account of the ease and novelty of its operation adds much to the pleasure of rifle shooting, either at target or game. The list price of the standard rifle of this model is $28.00. Send for Circular Fully Describing This Rifle.
