449 the pictures whose absence he regrets are now being made. AND WOMEN WONDER WHY MEN OBJECT TO “ 4 LITTLE MOUSE CLEANING.” Kickers’ Column. DITOR OF LIFE. Sir; 1 have been much disappointed at not finding in your more or less esteemed Journal any pictorial comment on the applica- ton of the torture cure to prisoners of war reluctant to give Information to their enemles, nor any illustrations of the exciting scenes In the Philippines when the order to kill every- thing over ten years of age was in course of execation. There have been many tliustrations of the imaginings of Boers, or rather alleged friends of the Boers of the baser sort; amusing because of the revelation of American cre- dulity ; and not alittle gross vulgarity appar ff ently copied from certain gutter papers of Europe, but nothing of the water torture ap- IZ plied by Calted States soldiers “shouting the battle cry of freedom." One feels that oppor- tunities have been lost, and that Lirkr’s artists could have done justice to the bayoneting of children by order of United States officers, and that something might have been done to em- phasize the magnantmity of those employed tn this work of American civilization in sparing the lives of unweaned infants, Youra, &¢,, May 2, 1902, Observer. We agree with “Observer,” and Dear LivR: Are you not blushing with shame and remorse? Jam so sorry for you! What panthers your soldiers in the Philippines must be! Water cures upon worthy Preaidente—magnates—sbocking ! Total burning of towns of ten thousand tn- habltants—dlagusting | Orders to Kill everything over ten years old — atrocious! If I were Pterpont Morgan I would hire the world to assist me to * rubbing it tn” to you. Sorry I can‘tt Sincerely yours, Frank Vane Agnew, (A Horrified Britisher.) P, S.—1 wonder if those poor prisoners in Ber- muda are getting ALL the tobacco they can eat ! Naxcoossge, PLa., Apr! 26, 1902. Dear Live: If Andrew Carnegte’s epitaph should read, ‘Here lles a man who knew how to get around him men much cleverer than himself," should Mr, Schwab's read, “ Here lles « better man than Andrew Carnegie"? Your opinion will be appreciated, Sincerely, STRELTON, Pa. Perey H. Parrock. 4 GOOD POINT. To THe Epiror ur Live, Dear Sir; As l understand tt, citizens are not allowed about the streets masked. The goggles of the chauffeur practically act as masks, as nomer- ous cases show, in which victims were unable to get an Idea of faces of the automobilists, giving the latter # special unfair privilege. A law, or strict regulation, for town and country, obliging them to omit the goggies except upon racing tracks, would greatly advance public safety, A rate greater than the driver can attain without special eye protection ts surely unreasonable on ordinary thoroughfares. Yours very truly, Marrapare, N.Y. H. D. B. THERE are always two political par- ties; not so much because there are two sides to every public question as because there are two sides to every office, viz.: the inside and the outside.
