who did not wisk» he too might take a hack at it. It would be unjust to praise specially any member of the cast when every one of them realizes so fully the delightful possibili- ties of his or her part and, too, when every part is a fat’ one. Of course the greater part of the work falls on Mr. Arnold Daly and he brings to it a complete understanding and interpretation of its real difficulties. Never, since “The London Follies,” has there been played on New York theatregoers such a joke as “The Tavern,” and the former was not intended asa joke. If you have an evening to waste and know anything about the theatre, don’t fail to see “The Tavern.” Permanent and transient New Yorkers have a general idea of how much show business is going on in this town but few of them grasp its real immensity. It will help to compre: hension if they glance at “What’s What” below and then add all the movie-houses, big and little, the innumerable musical entert ments from the Metropolitan opera down to the flood of debutante concerts, and to these many, many semi-private, stagings which do ot find their way to public notice.
