A story told by Roger at the time of the banquet to the Giants and the White Sox, after their tour of the world, and one which was received with particular favor by the assembled fans, concerned a young player who was with the Cardinals for a season at the time the great backstop was trying to make a pennant winner out of the St. Louis team. One day the player attended church and heard the priest preach on the Judgment Day. Meeting the clergyman after the services the player stopped him and said: “Father, [ want to ask you something regarding your sermon which I can’t quite make out.
