What you’re looking at
This page is primarily **advertising** rather than political satire. The dominant content is a Williams' Shaving Soap advertisement featuring a testimonial from a traveling salesman praising the product's superior lather and gentle properties. The page also contains: - A **Maryland Club Whiskey ad** (left side) emphasizing its age and quality - Several **brief humorous anecdotes** in the middle column—short jokes about various topics (a burglar/pastor, political candidates, social climbers) typical of Judge magazine's light humor - A **book advertisement** for an architecture guide - An **Adonis Supporter advertisement** (corset-like garment for men) There is **no significant political cartoon or satirical commentary** visible. The social humor is gentle and domestic rather than pointed—poking fun at minor hypocrisies (social climbing, politicians' broken promises) without addressing major political issues. This reflects Judge's mix of commercial advertising and light entertainment typical of early 1900s magazines.

THE PRUDENTIAL GIRL OF 1902. Among the many beautiful calendars issued for this year, one of the most artistic in riche ness of color and simplicity of design is that which bears the imprint of The Prudential In- surance Company of America. ‘The calendar proper is on one side of a cardboard, about twelve by ten inches, Ieaving the other side free for a striking portrait picture in ten col- ors, in which the eflects of an oil painting are reproduced with remarkable fidelity. The pic- ture is that of a young woman, blue-eyed and olden-haired, in a gown of white with green leaves and scarlet flowers, and set off with a dark purple hat of the Gainsborough style, en- circled by a black ostrich plume. ‘The Prudential has arranged to distribute these calendars, and if you desire one, write to the home office of The Prudential, in Newark, N. J., mentioning this paper, and a copy will be sent you by the Company, free of cost. MORAL: Protect yourself b: dealers if you shave yourself. Paris, , SHAVING SOAP What a Commercial Traveler Says: I have been a_ travelin, salesman for over 25 years and during my travels have always enjoyed the luxury of being shaved with Williams’ Shaving Soap. Recently while return- ing from California, I was shaved with another soap. I noticed at once that it was not Williams’ soap, as I can ii stantly recognize Williams’ Shaving Soap by its delicate perfume and thick, soft lather. Immediately "after being shaved, my face began to smart and burn. When I got to St. Paul, I consulted a physician, and he pro- nounced the trouble a bad case of barber’s itch, caused either by strong or impure soap.
