A RARE COIN. E. C. Stearns & Company have taken an at tractive method of testing their advertising. They are coining a replica (exact size) of the famous silver ten-drachm piece which was| struck off in ancient Syracuse, 338 B. C., by Dionysius the tyrant in commemoration of his victory in the quadriga race at the Olympian games. The catalogue of the British museum says that this coin is probably the most artistic of all time. It is very nearly as large as the American silver dollar, and is modeled in high relief. On one side is shown the classic head of the goddess Arethusa, who was the tutelary | deity of ancient Syracuse, presiding over the destinies of the sea. The head is surrounded by dolphins, and the perfect coin bears the | [3 Greek word ** Syrakosion.”” ie On the reverse side appears the four-horse [6] chariot of Dionysius L., who himself is driving] and is about to be crowned by winged Victory. Only a very few of these coins are now in ex- istence, one of the most perfect specimens be- | ing in the British museum, valued at two hun- dred dollars. E. C. Stearns & Company will send one of these coins to any address upon receipt of two two-cent stamps, with mention | of the name of the publication in which their | advertisement was seen. HECLUB= Why Co CKTAILS Are Best Years of experience have verified the theory that a Cocktail made of the best materials and aged is infinitely better than those prepared as wanted. As a Cocktail is substantially a blend of different and as the oldest distillers are a unit in admitting that all improve with age, it mast be accepted as a fact, ratified by the general experience of the trade, that an aged mixed drink of any kind is supe: rior to one made as wanted. Cocktails as served over bars are made entirely by guess, while the Club Cocktails are aged all ready for } use, and require only to be poured over cracked ice and strained off to $ be in perfect condition. They are made entirely by actual weight and measurement, and, admitting that the same quality of materials are used in both cases, the wholesale form of making must be the only } way of getting Cocktails of uniform quality. i In the past the male sex were the only ones privileged to par-} ‘take of that daintiest of American drinks, the Cocktail.” With the } innovation of Club Cocktails it has been made possible for the gentler mats OF to har: she's mot very strong.” sex to satisfy its curiosity in regard to the concoction about which 80 much has been written and said, and which has heretofore not been obtainable by them. ecremueine's en6 ae ).» Sole Proprietors.
