This document is a military incident report filed with Project 10073 (the U.S. Air Force's UFO investigation program, later known as Project Blue Book) on September 22, 1962. It documents a sighting near Eveleth, Minnesota on September 21, 1962, observed from an F-39d aircraft by pilot Lieutenant Tomlinson and Captain Nelson of the 179th Air National Guard. The object appeared as a bright, white flashing light moving rapidly at approximately 70 degrees elevation and 300 degrees azimuth, traveling at an estimated Mach 3 speed. The light faded before reaching the horizon after approximately 230 seconds of observation. Two other F-39d aircraft conducting practice intercepts at lower altitude were ruled out as the source. Witnesses characterized the object as brighter than previously observed satellites and moving faster. The report lists the conclusion as "Insufficient Data for Evaluation" and "Unknown."
