Mitsuteru Yokoyama (1934–2004) was a Japanese manga artist best known for his epic historical and adventure series, including *Tetsujin 28-go* (Gigantor), *Babel II*, and *Sangokushi* (his adaptation of *Romance of the Three Kingdoms*). Born in Kobe, Japan, in 1934, Yokoyama began his career as a teenager, submitting work to manga magazines while still in school. His breakthrough came in 1956 with *Tetsujin 28-go*, a giant robot story that helped define the mecha genre and influenced countless creators. Yokoyama’s style blended clean, dynamic linework with a strong sense of pacing, suited for both action and historical drama. He collaborated closely with editors and assistants at Shueisha and Kodansha, but his most enduring partnership was with his own disciplined work ethic, producing long-running series that spanned decades. Among his notable co-creations is *Babel II* (1971), a supernatural adventure that became a hit anime. Later in life, Yokoyama continued to draw until his death in 2004 at age 69, leaving behind a vast body of work that shaped Japanese comics. He received the Shogakukan Manga Award in 1957 for *Tetsujin 28-go* and was posthumously honored with a star on the Kobe Manga Walk of Fame.
