Urbain Servranckx, known professionally as Urbanus, was born on 7 June 1949 in Belgium. While he is best recognized across Flanders and the Netherlands as a comedian, actor, and singer—with hit songs like "Bakske vol met stro" (1979), "Madammen met een bontjas" (1980), and "Hittentit" (1982)—he also built a substantial career as a comic book writer. His path into comics began in 1983, and over the following decades he was credited as writer on 143 issues, most prominently in the long-running series *De avonturen van Urbanus*. His signature work blends his own irreverent humor with the visual storytelling of his artistic collaborators, creating a distinctive comedic voice on the page. Urbanus co-created the titular character and his world, which also appeared in specials, newspaper strips for *Het Belang van Limburg*, and seasonal collections like *De avonturen van Urbanus - Wintertenenboek*. His later life continued to see him active in both performance and comics, with credits extending into 2026. Though his awards are not detailed here, his enduring popularity in Belgian entertainment and his prolific output in comics mark him as a singular figure who successfully crossed from stage and screen to sequential art.
