Ted Naifeh, born in 1971, is an American comic book writer and artist best known for creating the Eisner-nominated series *Courtney Crumrin* for Oni Press. He first drew attention as the illustrator of the gothic romance *Gloomcookie*, and his signature style—detailed, moody, and fairy-tale-inflected—has defined his career. Naifeh's other notable works include *Polly and the Pirates*, the graphic novel trilogy *The Good Neighbors* (written by Holly Black), and *How Loathsome*, co-created with Tristan Crane. He also adapted the PSP game *Death, Jr.* (written by Gary Whitta) and provided art for issues of *The Shadow of the Torturer* adaptation, Caitlín R. Kiernan's *Alabaster*, and cards for *Magic: The Gathering*. Active from 1991 to 2022, Naifeh is credited on 88 issues as artist, colorist, inker, letterer, and writer, with *Courtney Crumrin* and its sequels remaining his most beloved work. His legacy lies in blending dark fantasy with coming-of-age stories, earning him a devoted readership and critical respect.
