Matt Jenkins
Matt Jenkins (born in Fort Worth, Texas) is best known in comics for his work on Cartoon Network licensed titles during the early 2000s. Active from 2000 to 2005, he contributed to 14 issues, most prominently on *Dexter’s Laboratory*, *Cartoon Cartoons*, *Cartoon Network Block Party*, *Cartoon Network Starring*, and *Pyssla med Tom & Jerry*. His style suited the energetic, kid-friendly tone of these animated adaptations, often collaborating with other work-for-hire artists to meet the demands of licensed publishing. Jenkins’s path into comics came through the industry’s need for reliable hands on franchise books, though he is also a country music artist and songwriter. He co-wrote several hit songs, including Keith Urban’s “Cop Car,” Dustin Lynch’s “Where It’s At,” and Jordan Davis’s “Buy Dirt,” which won the Country Music Association Award for Song of the Year in 2021. His brother, Josh Jenkins, is also a songwriter. In comics, Jenkins’s legacy is as a capable contributor to the Cartoon Network line during its peak licensed era, though his later life has seen him shift focus primarily to music. He has not received major comics industry awards but remains a footnote for collectors of early 2000s cartoon tie-ins.
