Marc Sumerak was born in 1978 in Solon, Ohio, and grew up in the Cleveland area. After graduating from Bowling Green State University in 2000, he joined Marvel Comics as an editor, working alongside Tom Brevoort from 1999 to 2003 before transitioning to freelance writing. His first published work as a writer was the *Avengers Casebook 1999*, and he soon became a prolific contributor across the Marvel line, with credits on *Avengers*, *Thor*, *Iron Man*, *Fantastic Four*, *Black Panther*, *Captain Marvel*, *Thunderbolts*, *Hulk*, *Sentinel*, and *Agent X*.

Sumerak is best known for his all-ages work, particularly seven consecutive four-issue limited series of *Power Pack*, and the Eisner Award– and Harvey Award–nominated *Franklin Richards: Son of a Genius*, which he co-wrote with Chris Eliopoulos. He also wrote *Ororo: Before the Storm*, *Machine Teen*, *Guardians*, and *Marvel Age: Fantastic Four*, and provided English translations for *Spider-Man J* in the *Spider-Man Family* series. He handled the writing for the video game *Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order*.

Sumerak has cited his time as a costumed character at SeaWorld in Aurora, Ohio, as a key influence on his storytelling. He remained active in comics through 2021, with his most-credited titles including *Marvel Adventures Spider-Man*, *Marvel Age Fantastic Four*, and *Hulk and Power Pack*.
