Kia Asamiya

Kia Asamiya, born Michitaka Kikuchi on March 9, 1963, in Japan, is a manga artist known for blending science fiction, fantasy, and action across a wide range of genres. He first gained prominence in the late 1980s and early 1990s with his breakthrough series *Silent Möbius*, a supernatural cyberpunk saga about an all-female police squad battling demonic entities in a futuristic Tokyo. This work established his signature style: sleek, detailed character designs, dynamic paneling, and a cinematic flair influenced by anime and Western comics. Asamiya is also celebrated for creating the mecha-comedy series *Nadesico*, which he wrote and illustrated, and for his manga adaptation of the film *Gunhed*. In the late 1990s, he crossed over into American comics, writing and drawing issues of *The Uncanny X-Men* and *Marvel Double Shot*, and later adapting *Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace* into manga form. His collaborations include working with writer Fred Schiller on *Silent Möbius* and with Marvel editors on his X-Men run. Asamiya’s influence endures through his pioneering fusion of manga and Western superhero storytelling, and he has received multiple awards, including the Seiun Award for Best Comic in 1991 for *Silent Möbius*. He remains active in the industry, continuing to produce manga and illustrations.
