Hellboy: Weird Tales #8
The final issue of Hellboy: Weird Tales wraps up the anthology run with a stellar lineup of contributors — Jill Thompson, Evan Dorkin, Kia Asamiya, Akira Yoshida, Gary Fields, and John Cassaday among them. Michael Wm. Kaluta's cover sets a wonderfully moody tone, depicting Hellboy crouched low amid a graveyard of wrecked aircraft under a pale moon, with small glowing jack-o'-lantern figures gathered around him in the debris. The atmosphere is equal parts pulp adventure and eerie folklore — exactly the kind of strange, atmospheric storytelling that made this 2004 Dark Horse series such a satisfying showcase for the Hellboy universe.
