Kamome Shirahama

Kamome Shirahama is a Japanese freelance manga artist and illustrator best known for creating the fantasy series *Witch Hat Atelier*. Born in Japan, she began her career as an illustrator before breaking into comics with her own work. Her detailed, whimsical art style, which often evokes European fairy tales and classic manga, has also led to commissions from Marvel Comics, DC Comics, and Lucasfilm. She contributed variant covers to *Star Wars* titles and provided character designs for *The Elder*, a short film in the 2021 *Star Wars: Visions* anthology, later writing its manga adaptation in 2022. Shirahama’s signature work, *Witch Hat Atelier*, has earned her multiple accolades, including nominations for the Eisner Award and Harvey Award, as well as wins for the Kodansha Manga Award and the Daruma d'Or Manga at the Japan Expo Awards. She has also been recognized by the Manga Taishō, the Mangawa Award, and the Prix Babelio. Active from 2016 to 2024, her credited work spans 11 issues across titles such as *Witch Hat Atelier*, *Star Wars Sonderband*, and *Star Wars: Doctor Aphra*. Her legacy lies in blending Western fantasy influences with manga storytelling, creating a distinct visual language that continues to attract a global audience.
