Jimmy Janes
Jimmy Janes was an American comics artist and storyboard artist, born on July 17, 1947, and passing away on September 1, 2020. He is best remembered for his work on DC Comics' *Legion of Super-Heroes* series, where his clean, dynamic storytelling helped define the look of the futuristic team during the 1970s and early 1980s. Janes entered the industry in 1973, and over a career that spanned nearly five decades, he contributed to more than thirty issues across DC's *Superboy* and *Legion of Super-Heroes* titles, as well as the collection *Legion of Super-Heroes: Before the Darkness*. Beyond DC, he also worked on independent series like *Eternity Smith*, *Hercule*, and *Superman*. His style was marked by a strong sense of anatomy and clear, energetic panel layouts, often inked by collaborators such as Dave Hunt. Janes’s later years saw him shift into storyboarding for animation and film, though his legacy in comics remains tied to the Legion’s Silver and Bronze Age adventures. While he did not receive major industry awards during his lifetime, his contributions are valued by fans of the team and collectors of the era.
