Jean-Marc van Tol
1967–
Jean-Marc van Tol was born on 6 July 1967 in Rotterdam, Netherlands. He is best known as the co-creator and artist of the long-running Dutch comic strip *Fokke & Sukke*, a satirical series he developed alongside writers John Reid and Bastiaan Geleijnse. The trio received the Stripschapprijs in 2004 for their work on the strip. Van Tol’s path into comics began with a background in illustration and cartooning; he has been credited as an artist, colorist, inker, letterer, and writer on 46 issues from 1994 to 2025. His signature style blends clean, expressive linework with deadpan humor, often skewering Dutch politics and culture. Beyond *Fokke & Sukke*, van Tol contributed to collections such as *Kort & Triest*, *Zone 5300*, and the newspaper strip *NRC.next*. He also appeared as a contestant on the Dutch TV series *Wie is de mol*. His later work includes the themabundels (themed collections) of *Fokke & Sukke* and occasional contributions to the *Eisner* anthology. Van Tol’s legacy is tied to his role in modernizing Dutch newspaper comics, and the Stripschapprijs remains his most notable award.
