Fiona Kai Avery was born on September 13, 1974, in the United States. She is best known for her work in both television and comics, particularly for creating the Marvel character Araña. Avery began her career in television as a reference editor for the fifth season of *Babylon 5*, continuing in that role for its spin-off *Crusade*. She also wrote several episodes for the series, including "The Well of Forever" and "Patterns of the Soul." After *Crusade* was canceled, she moved into comic book writing, working for Marvel and Top Cow on titles such as *The Amazing Spider-Man* and *Tomb Raider*. Her most notable co-creation is Araña, a teenage superheroine introduced in the series *Araña: The Heart of the Spider*. She also wrote three spin-offs of J. Michael Straczynski's *Rising Stars*: *Bright*, *Voices of the Dead*, and *Untouchable*. Her comic book career was relatively brief, with her most credited work appearing between 2000 and 2006, including runs on *Amazing Fantasy*, *Rogue*, and *Thundercats: Hammerhand's Revenge*. Avery's later career saw her step away from regular comics work. She has not received major industry awards, but her creation of Araña remains a significant contribution to Marvel's diverse roster of characters.
