Dean Rankine
1971–
Dean Rankine is an Australian comics artist, writer, illustrator, and painter, born in 1971. He is best known for his energetic, cartoonish artwork on licensed humor comics, particularly *Simpsons Comics*, where his expressive character work and clean, dynamic linework became a staple. Rankine also contributed to several *Rick and Morty* specials, including the *10th Anniversary Special*, *Spring Break Out*, *Super Spring Break Special*, and *Yearbook Vol. 1*, as well as *I Hate Fairyland*. Over his career, he has worked as an artist, colorist, inker, and writer on more than ten issues between 2013 and 2025.
Beyond comics, Rankine has worked as a painter on the ABC series *Portrait Artist of the Year*. His style balances broad comedy with precise storytelling, making him a natural fit for fast-paced, gag-driven series. He has collaborated with writers and editors across multiple publishers, though his most consistent work has been within the licensed humor space. Rankine’s legacy lies in his ability to bring beloved animated characters to the page with a distinct, lively touch that feels both faithful and fresh. He has not yet received major industry awards, but his steady output and recognizable style have earned him a loyal following among fans of modern comic humor.
