Darren Shan is the pen name of Irish author Darren O'Shaughnessy, born 2 July 1972 in London, though he was raised in Limerick, Ireland. He is best known for his young adult horror series *The Saga of Darren Shan*, which follows a boy turned half-vampire; the series was adapted into a manga from 2006 to 2009 and a live-action film in 2009. Shan also created the demonic fantasy series *The Demonata* and the zombie saga *Zom-B*. His work in comics is more limited: he wrote ten issues of *Weapon X* for Marvel between 2017 and 2018, bringing his dark, character-driven storytelling to the mutant antihero. Shan’s prose style is visceral and fast-paced, often blending horror with moral complexity, and he has collaborated with artists like Ron Garney on that run. Beyond comics, he self-published the *Archibald Lox* series from 2020 to 2022. For adult readers, he has written under the name Darren Dash since 2014. Shan’s legacy rests on his ability to make horror accessible to young readers, and his books have sold millions worldwide. He has won multiple Irish Book Awards and the Red House Children’s Book Award.
