Carlo Chendi
Carlo Chendi was an Italian cartoonist best known for writing hundreds of Disney comics stories, particularly for *Topolino* and other Disney periodicals. Born Angelo Carlo Chendi on 10 July 1933 in Italy, he began his comics career in 1952 and remained active in the industry through 2018, with over 100 issues credited to his name. His most frequent collaborators included artists such as Giorgio Cavazzano and Luciano Bottaro, with whom he co-created the popular Italian Disney character Paperinik (the superhero alter ego of Scrooge McDuck’s nephew). Chendi’s signature style was marked by witty dialogue and inventive plots, often blending slapstick humor with adventure. He also wrote for non-Disney titles like *Il Giornalino* and contributed to the Danish Disney comic *Anders And & Co.* as well as the Swedish *Joakim*. Later in life, he was recognized for his lasting impact on Italian comics, though specific major awards are not recorded in the available material. Chendi passed away on 12 September 2021, leaving behind a prolific legacy as one of the key writers who shaped the Italian Disney comic tradition.
